The Penn State Interfraternity Council held a Kick Off the Fall Tailgate Saturday, Aug. 27 with the Penn State Panhellenic Council and Penn State PRIDE, a club that promotes fan sportsmanship.

About 250 freshmen, student athletes and Greek student leaders attended the event, in which the IFC, PHC and PRIDE set up booths to promote Penn State school spirit.

Taken from the Penn State’s student newspaper, The Daily Collegian:

The Interfraternity Council and Panhellenic Council hosted the first ever Kick Off the Fall Tailgate outside the Business Building on Saturday to promote sportsmanship and get new students involved in Penn State.

Together with the PRIDE Penn State Sportsmanship Team and the Student-Athlete Advisory Board, the organizations wanted to “take an opportunity to engage freshmen,” said IFC Vice President for Finance John Hanson, who spearheaded the event.

“We’re hoping for better awareness of what it means to have Penn State pride,” Hanson (graduate-business administration) said.

And check out a post from Penn State’s student blog, OnwardState:

The IFC and PHC also made a $1,500 donation to Penn State PRIDE at the event. According to IFC President Dan Florencio (@dvflorencio), sportsmanship is a value he hopes to see incorporated into his own organization’s efforts over the remainder of his term. The funds will go towards supporting a variety of PRIDE initiatives, including a ‘Roll Out the Crimson Carpet’ week of activities leading up to the Alabama game.

The Penn State IFC is one of the country’s largest Greek Communities and is rooted in scholarship, philanthropy and friendship. Follow the IFC on Twitter at twitter.com/PennStateIFC.
